submitted by Kim Nguyen
PACO Publicity Chair

PACO’s most senior of its five youth orchestras will perform a collection of inspiring music on Saturday, December 18th under the direction of PACO music director, Benjamin Simon. Nine Gunn students will be a part of the performance.

They are:

The concert program is to celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven's 240th Birthday with a performance of his youthful Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major and his marvelous Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral). Our soloist is MIT professor David Deveau, a world-class performer and teacher who will be making his PACO debut. Also featured will be Pavel Haas' brilliant Study for String Orchestra (1943), one of many masterpieces that emerged from the Terezin concentration camp in the midst of the horrors of World War II, and the fiery third movement of Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3 performed by an advanced string quartet formed by PACO members.

The concert will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the Eagle Theater of Los Altos High School, 201 Almond Ave, Los Altos. Ticket prices are $15 general, $10 senior and $5 student. For more information, please call 650-856-3848 or visit http:/www.pacomusic.org.
